Wardrobe Wednesday {Families with Teens} http://ping.fm/PGRTH

Wardrobe Wednesday {Families with Teens}

Teens with their own style doesn't have to mean a traumatic family session for all! Check out this week's Wardrobe Wednesday {where fashion meets photography} post by Minor Impressions Photography for advice on making sure there's a little less drama while still looking fantastic!!

Here in Texas, the outrageous heat is gradually making its exit, and we are starting to see a little bit of fall-like weather. For me, this always means that clients start calling to schedule their family session before the holidays get near. While us Wardrobe Wednesday ladies have been giving everyone advice for almost two years now, it can still seem so overwhelming to put together your entire family’s wardrobe, and you can’t help but tinker with the idea of just doing one solid color. Add in a few older kiddos who are already highly opinionated with what they want to wear, and I’m sure you’re already stressed just thinking about it. That is why I chose to put together an ensemble consisting of mom, dad, and the possibility of a few hard-headed kiddos.

My first piece of advice is to decide which kid will be the most challenging when choosing his/her outfit. (I highly recommend that you don’t tell him/her why you chose them first!) J Once you’ve got the most difficult selection out of the way, start building everyone else’s outfits to complement it. If the first outfit you choose has a pattern with different colors, then choose solids to balance it all out. If it is one solid color, then the next outfit you select should have a few more colors, one being complementary to the first selection.

When teenagers are involved, keep in mind that your biggest challenge might not be about the colors, but rather the comfort, specifically theirs. While one daughter might love being in a dress every day, the other may be all about her jeans. You will have a lot less resistance if they can relax in their attire and allow their personalities to show a little while still trying to keep with a similar theme.

In the example below, I started my collection with, the more reserved, Girl # 2’s shirt. After adding Girl # 1’s dress, I was able to piece together the remaining outfits.

Music Monday http://ping.fm/CpDIs

Music Monday

I missed out on Friday's post, I will get that one up at a later date.  I have been feeling a bit under the weather and today I am lucky enough to be working on 3 hours, if that, of sleep.  So please excuse any major grammatical errors!

Here is my playlist for the last week, you may take note that I watch a lot of TV.  As usual, you check them out and decide if it is to your liking, I am just sharing my playlist.  Would love for you to share yours in the comment area below.

1. To start off with, many of you may have noticed the commercials for the new Gears of War 3 video game, well they are playing one of my all time favorite artist, Mazzy Star's Into Dust.  So needless to say that has put me in the mood to rock her cd, the entire album is great! Good, relaxing, soulful music!

2. Secondly, the other new video game Dark Soul's has another awesome band playing their trailer soundtrack. The Silent Comedy is the name of the band, Bartholomew is the name of the song. Really enjoying this tune as of late.

3. This one is an oldie, Under Pressure by Queen and David Bowie. Watched it's a Funny Story, and they played this sound, which you can't help but sing and dance to, so thank goodness for itunes (download it when you feel the need to hear it).

4.  Another band that I am enjoying right now are the Sleigh Bells, particularly Rill Rill.

5.  Colours by Grouplove

6.  Raise Your Weapon by Deadmau5 featuring Greta Svabo Bech, really enjoying rocking this one!

7.  Some new Feist!! How Come You Never Go There

8.  Norwiegn singer Mr. Little Jeans (actually a chic) covers Arcade Fires, The Suburbs, and does it well.  You can nab this mp3 over at http://rcrdlbl.com. Check out other great artist while your there!

9.  Today on Siruis XM U was blogradio, featuring Hipster Runoff, www.hipsterrunoff.com. He played this little tune that I really dug,  Desire [Remix} by Desire.

10.  Lastly,we have- Cowboys in the Void by Quilt

Thrifty Thursday http://ping.fm/qxVUH

Thrifty Thursday

In today's economy we are looking for ways to save a buck or two, hopefully more.  I have always enjoyed sharing bargains with others, so on Thursdays I am going to share some deals and bargains that I have come across. Please feel free to leave a comment below about some deals that you know of.

To start off, Jenn Smith Photography has a Deal on Facebook.  When you check in on Facebook, during any session, you will receive 8 free wallets. This deal is valid thru October 31st. We will be having monthly Deals on Facebook, so keep a look out for those. If you leave a review for Jenn Smith Photography, you will earn 1 free credit. If you have purchased a collection from Jenn Smith Photography, you know what credits are (those valuable little things)! Also in the new Family Welcome Packets, you receive 5, $75 toward prints coupons to give to friends and family. For everyone that redeems their coupon, you will receive $75 to spend on a new session. And as always every Senior Session comes with a complimentary Family Session ~ waived setting fee, one free 11x14, and 20% off collections.  These are just a few ways to save with Jenn Smith Photography. Keep an eye out for more Deals and specials.

I have ran across a website that I have found extremely useful for tips in saving some money. Feedthepig.org has some helpful tips for breaking spending habits. My spending addictions are Magazines/books, shoes (I was in denial about this one until we moved) and  music downloads. I have found some pretty useful advice, like the one for Magazines/books ~ Got a library card in your wallet? Use it! (my mother and mother-in-law will appreciate that one, they are both librarians).  My music downloads have slowed down a bit, thanks to some great music bloggers out there and some useful apps (which I will discuss on Music Mondays). As far as my shoe addiction goes, my husband will be glad to know that I haven't purchased a pair since we have moved, I have looked and drooled, but the debit card has stayed in my wallet.

I have however purchased a few new shorts and a super cute top at Dillard's, which I scored  for an amazing $8.00 a piece, thanks to the clearance rack and seasonal clothing changes at the stores.  So stop by your favorite store and check out the clearance rack, and please share your latest bargains! If you read yesterdays Wardrobe Wednesday post and signed up with Zulily, then you know that toady's events are Pink & Powerful Boutique with up to 70% off (Support in Style! Kick off Breast Cancer Awareness Month in style), and Olive Kids with up to 40% off (Sheets, drapes and wall art).

Hope that these few little tips have helped, I will keep an eye out for more tips, links, and bargains to share with you next week.

{Wardrobe Wednesday} Fall Sessions http://ping.fm/CQkDB

{Wardrobe Wednesday} Fall Sessions

So I have had a lot of clients ask for clothing advice, so I thought I would share some tips on Wardrobe Wednesday. Share some deals and clothing tips.  I always say simple is best, and coordination is better that matchy-match.  While researching I came across Kelly V Photography http://www.kellyvphotographyblog.com/?p=1635, I love what she chose for her WW post this week…and I think you’ll love them too!

I’m all about unique clothing finds — especially when it comes to dressing for a portrait session. And living in a mostly rural area without too many shopping options, I rely on online retailers quite a bit. So I was really excited to find out about Zulily.com. Anyone can sign up, and it delivers a daily e-mail to your inbox with deals for moms, babies and kids. All at incredible savings!

Sure, sometimes I just don’t have time and they get ignored or deleted. But when I’m looking for something a little different, Zulily is the place to go! It has introduced me to all sorts of retailers I never knew existed.

So for this week’s Wardrobe Wednesday, I thought I’d share my shopping secret with you and feature a few clothing finds from today’s daily deal! And if you sign up, you can get them, too.

One of today’s shopping “events” as Zulili calls them, is from Bouton Kids. When I checked out their website, I realized everything is hand-woven. Some of it is a little eclectic for my taste, but I loved some of the patterns and styles. I found two great pieces on the Zulili sale that made for a great starting point for outfits for a family session.

Even better? Zulili is featuring the skirt for $44 ($76 on the store’s website) and the shirt for $37 ($64 at the store). Great deals, huh?

To round out the rest of the outfits, I opted for a little pop of color with red, which is perfect for fall.

Jake Senior 2012

Music Monday

Since we have become some what settled after our big move, I realized that it is time to turn my attention to my biz pages.  Throughout the week I plan on adding more content to spice things up.  The blog will become more of an extension of who I am, not just about my photography.
If you have ever met me then you probably already know my addiction to music, and that it is my other passion. Not that I play and instrument now (unless drums on Rock Band count), but I couldn't live without music. One of the first things that I ask people, "What kind of music do you listen to?" I am not looking for a specific answer, and I don't mind what you listen too, because I listen to it all!!  So Mondays are now known as Music Mondays!! I will share with you what is on my play list. It will be new artist and songs, and some old favs. I hope that you leave a comment about what you are listening in the comment area, I check everything out!

So let's get down to what is on my play list this week:

1. Coming Down - by Dum Dum Girls.  They will be doing a studio session on Sirius XMU on Wednesday evening at 9central. I will be listening to that one!!

2. I Need A Dollar - by Aloe Blacc

3.  Give Me Your Eyes - by Brandon Heath

4.  Barton Hollow - by The Civil Wars

5.  Hide and Seek - by Imogen Heap

6.  Midnight City - by M83

7. Virgin - by Manchester Orchestra

8.  Jealous Of The Moon - by Nickel Creek

9.  Billie Holiday - by Warpaint

10. Street Joy - by White Denim

Check out some of these tunes, they may not all be your cup of tea, but they are worth checking out.  Share what you are listening to, because I am always looking for new music. Hope that you all have a fantabulous Monday!!

New Location for Jenn Smith Photography

Jenn Smith Photography is no longer located at 101 N Main St in McLoud, Oklahoma. Most of my wonderful clients have been informed of the news, and are as excited about the change as I am.

I poured my heart into the studio space in McLoud and it showed, you could feel it when you walked in, (so I was told by many a person that graced my door.) Issues kept coming up as with any old building, but it began to get old, especially when it became an inconvenience for my wonderful clients. I also had to take a step back and really take a good long look at my goals, because they were beginning to become a blur.

When I started Jenn Smith Photography, client experience and customer service was key, not to mention the quality that I strive for. I felt that I began to get lax in all of the above. I became overwhelmed with all of the issues that kept arising and my inability to say, "No!" My family time and my time with God were also becoming less and less. I forgot my number one rule, God and Family always come first!! I was spending hours on end at the computer, editing pictures, booking too many clients, and not taking care of myself.

So I have decided to take a different direction for the studio, yet again!! My family has purchased a new home on a wonderful piece of property just outside of Shawnee. The temporary studio space is 500 square feet, which will work for newborn work and presentations, and consultations. We are in the process of building an awesome new studio!! I am so excited, to be able to offer my clients this experience. If any of you were lucky enough to visit Carol Dwyer's studio space in Meeker, you will know the direction that I am headed, although we have a MUCH bigger outside space.

So I am going back to the roots, Clients are key, not quantity of clients, Family and God always come first, and always take care of yourself.

So for all of my clients that asked me to state this here it is. I love all of my clients and cherish each and every referral they send my way! So please be aware that there is another Photographer renting my old studio space, I wish her luck and hope that she feels all of the love that I put into the studio!! But that photographer is not me, so if a friend of yours referred you to me, give me call at 413-3100.

Keep on the look out for more news and best of all photos!!

We are both married and have children now, we don't see each other all that often; yet we live pretty close to each other. The best thing is, we can always pick up where we left off. I am glad that we are still friends.

I'm posting this for Marie Sharp (she doesn't have a computer) I would like to nominate Ashley Mason for this contest. Because Ashley has chosen a new career as a hair stylist which means that she is catering to EVERYONE elses needs and no one is there for her. Ashley needs some pampering right now, she's been tossed about so much over the past few years...it's time for relaxation now.

I was on the receiving end of her scissors and razor this week and let me tell you...she's a genius! The recession has stomped our family financially and emotionally over the last few years, I'm also becoming physical disabled and increasingly depressed...but after just a few minutes with her...my smile was back. I don't mind mirrors again! This is what she does for people everyday!

I vote Ashley Mason... she does things that no one else can even comprehend. I mean it, she's like some super hero from outer space, here only to kick ass and chew bubblegum, but she's too poor to afford bubblegum. She deserves this not only because she wants it more then all these other chicks, but because if you don't give it to her, no amount of Wrigley's can save you! :)

Name: Amanda

What are your plans after high school?: Attend College

What will you miss about high school?: Friends

Playlist/Music: Christian

Secret Super Power: Mind control

Best Friend: Henry

Dream Job: Teaching Math and/or Science

Amanda ~ I am glad that I got to get you out of your comfort zone even for a little bit. I wish you tons of luck and know that you will accomplish everything that you set your mind to! Congrats girl!

Changes coming June 1st!

Coming June 1st we will be rolling out our revamped Price Guide and Collections. We are in the process of working out the "Make Your Own" styled packages, so that they are less confusing. We are also adding some new products, that we are really excited about.

There will also be new Senior packages and sessions. We are still keeping the Complimentary Family Session with every senior session.

We will also be adding a Belly & Babies plan. I am looking forward to sharing this with my repeat maternity/newborn clients. I have enjoyed watching the little ones grow over the years!

The session fees will no longer be deducted from the price of the collections, with the exception of special sessions in which the session is already included (Which is noted).

We will also no longer be selling 4x6 prints. A 4x6 print is a good size for home-made snapshots, but for our professional work, larger prints are far better suited for tabletop display and as gifts.

All images purchased in a print product, will be sized for the web, watermarked and placed on a disc for you to share with friends and family on the computer or your phone. This way you are able to share you favorite images with loved ones.

While growing my business has been a dream come true and a wonderful journey, I have been taking notes along the way. In doing so I am able to make changes that are best for us both! As always, I look forward to seeing you and your family through the viewfinder!

Declaration of Grace

The day is finally here to explain the details about Declaration of Grace.
Declaration of Grace is not your typical photo shoot, it is a journey to rediscovering your true beauty.
Every woman deserves a beautiful portrait of themselves and enjoy the process to get that perfect portrait. We all have flaws and imperfections but we need to embrace them, because they are what makes us unique. Your true beauty and grace comes from within. When you rediscover how beautiful you are, that beauty comes shining through.
There is a consultation prior to this session as with all of our sessions, but this consult is very special ~ it is the beginning of your journey to rediscovering your grace, beauty and what you love most about yourself. We get to know you during the consultation so that we are able to put you at ease in front of the camera. We also supply you with some homework that helps you to overcome insecurities, embrace your beauty and become closer to those you love.
We have also partnered with Kelly McCampbell from Renew You Now. She will be doing all of the pampering for our special ladies that partake on this journey.
We have three different sessions available, they all include a hairstyling and makeup and prints.
The Saving Grace package is $250, and includes hair styling, make up, 3-8x10s, 6-5x7s, 16-wallets and you can add a friend or loved one for $50.
The State of Grace package is $300, it includes hair styling, makeup, manicure, 4-8x10s, 8-5x7s, 16-wallets. You can add a friend for loved one for $75.
The Gracefulness package is over four hours of nothing but YOU time at $350. It includes a facial, hair styling, makeup, manicure, pedicure and a lite lunch. 4-8x10s, 8-5x7s, and 24-wallets. You can add a friend or loved one for $100.
All of the pampering is taken place at the studio by Kelly prior to the shoot. Each photo shoot is customized for you, and is based up your preference and style.
If you are in need of a hair cut or color before you Declaration of Grace session, check out Kelly at Renew You Now and schedule an appointment.
We have gift cards available to purchase (these will make great Mother's Day gifts).
Make sure to like the Facebook page. We will be having a drawing in a few weeks for the Gracefulness Session.
Remember the things that you do in your everyday life may not be glamorous or make you feel beautiful of full of grace, but they are important and they truly make a difference in the lives of people around you.

Derricca and Laticia

What a fun day we had with these two beauties! I was glad that they brought their other two sisters and their mom along. They had Michael and I cracking up the biggest part of the session.

Michael and I shot these girls in a combined Senior Session- something that we are calling a Paparazzi Session (details will be out later). We shot upstairs at the studio and various alleyways around the big town of McLoud.

Thank you ladies for making us enjoy our jobs even more! We wish you both tons of luck on your en devours!

Selisa's Senior Shoot

I had an amazing day with this young lady. We started out shooting at the studio then headed out to the farm to shoot by the barn and the pond. The weather was wonderfully cooperative on that day as well! We do have those kinds of days once in a while.

Miss Selisa I wish you loads of luck in your future. Thank you for spending the day with me.

Makeup review for the ladies!

I recently found some new make up that I have fallen in love with, both as a consumer and as a photographer. L'OREAL has a new foundation called Magic Smooth Souffle, when used with the primer, Magic Perfecting Base, it works just like magic! Blends seamlessly (when using the right color for your skin tone), blurs pores and smoothes fine lines! You heard me right! Pics are a dream to edit when clients wear this stuff. I feel like I have perfect skin when I wear it. Hope that this little review comes in handy next time you are in the makeup isle!
